Elon Musk is striving hard to put humans on Mars, and it looks like he has gotten everything figured out, well if we look at his tweets at least.
The SpaceX head recently revealed that he wishes to build 100 starships every year. These 100 starships, with their reusable nature, will fly around 100,000 people — when Mars and Earth sync orbitally.
In case you were wondering what does sync orbitally mean, well as you know Earth and Mars, like other planets rotate in an orbit with Sun at its centre. Now once, every 26 months, the orbit of Earth and Mars comes closer, shortening the actual travel distance.
Well, this surely seems like a lot, but according to Elon, it is pretty doable. When he was asked by a twitter user if Musk plans to inhabit Mars with around a million humans by the year 2050, Musk confirmed, stating, ”Starship design goal is 3 flights/day avg rate, so ~1000 flights/year at >100 tons/flight, so every 10 ships yield 1 megaton per year to orbit.”
In these tweets, he also agreed that there is still a lot of work that is needed for propellant production on Mars, to get the human back to their home planet. And in case you were wondering how would one be eligible to travel to Mars, Musk replied, the person needs to be dedicated to go on Mars. he also stated that in case you didn’t have money, SpaceX will provide loans to those people.
Elon has also said that humans would also be able to earn as Mars will have many jobs — although there are no specifics lined up yet.
While all these promises by Elon might seem farfetched, we can only hope for them to get true, considering the trajectory SpaceX is at with its reusable rockets.
