Popular instant messaging app WhatsApp has rolled out support for Facebook Rooms for WhatsApp web. This means that those who use WhatsApp on their desktop through the internet browser will be able to chat video call with up to 50 people using the Facebook Rooms platform.
How to create a Messenger room on WhatsApp
WhatsApp web users can find the option to use Messenger Rooms through two options. First, through the top left side of the screen, clicking on the three dot icon will open a menu that has an option of ‘Create a room.’ Alternatively, they can open chat with a user and click on the attach icon on the top right corner to find the last icon for Room.
Clicking on either will ask the user’s permission to continue in Messenger to create a room. Once the user clicks on continue they will be redirected to a new link where it already fetches your Facebook profile information including your profile picture and profile name. The web page reads, “People with the link can join and share the room with others, even if they don’t have Messenger or Facebook. You’ll create this room with your Facebook name and profile picture.”
Once you create the room and grant it permissions to access your camera and mic, you will be able to go to the next screen that offers a shareable link along with options like screen sharing, viewing call participants, mute mic and disable camera.
Reports about the integration between the recently launched Messenger Rooms and WhatsApp have been known since the former was launched. This was even confirmed by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his In his announcement post where he said, “Rooms have no time limits, can host up to 50 people, and you can create them for free across Messenger, Facebook, and soon Instagram and WhatsApp as well.”
Android beta users of WhatsApp have added this shortcut since May but as of now there is no word on the rollout of this feature to iPhone users.
