SC allows NEET to be conducted again on October 14 for students who missed due to COVID

NEW DELHI: In a breather to students who missed this year’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examinations due to being infected by Covid-19 or being in containment zones, the Supreme Court on Monday allowed them to appear for it on October 14.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde, while allowing students to appear for the NEET exams on October 14, said that the results will be declared on October 16.

The apex court’s order comes on a request made by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to allow students, who could not give the NEET exam due to testing Covid-19 positive or being in containment zones to appear for the NEET exams.

Hours after the order, Centre also announced that the National Testing Agency will release the results of NEET, the entrance examination for admission into medical and dental colleges across India, on October 16.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank made the announcement, adding that the exact timing of the results will be intimated later.

“NTA will be declaring the results of NEET UG 2020 on 16th October 2020. Exact timing of the results will be intimated later. I wish all the best to the candidates,” he wrote.

The test this year was held on September 13 despite widespread protests to cancel the examination, in the wake of the prevailing pandemic situation. As per the figures shared by the education ministry last month, of around 15.97 lakhs aspirants who had registered for the tests, nearly 13 lakhs aspirants had appeared in the examination.
